The Plant Micro-Reserve (PMR) for Horstrissea dolinicola Greuter, P. Gerstberger & B. Egli, an endemic plant of Crete found only in a restricted area of Psiloritis mountain, was finally established by taking the legal status of a “Protected Natural Formation”. The official decision made by the Decentralised Administration of Crete was published in the Government Gazette of Greece (FEK D/250 18-5-2020).The PMR of 3.8 ha was created for the protection of the biotope of the plant, and the study and monitoring of its population.

The actions for the establishment of the PMR were initiated during the CARE-MEDIFLORA project as part of the in situ actions carried out for H. dolinicola (SPECIES INFORMATION SHEET pdf). For the creation of the PMR, a close collaboration of the Mediterranean Plant Conservation Unit of MAICh was developed with the Decentralized Administration of Crete - Forest Directorate of Rethymno (FDR), the Technical University of Crete and the Municipality of Anogeia. The FDR is the authority responsible for the management of the area and it proceeded with the request to characterise the PMR as a Protected Natural Formation.
